Counselling and Therapy

When something in life doesn’t feel right and needs to change

You don't need to be in crisis to come to therapy. Sometimes you simply reach a point where the way you've been living, relating or coping no longer feels alligned.

You might be experiencing anxiety or stress, struggling in a relationship, questioning your career, navigating a separation or loss, or simply feeling that something in your life isn't working anymore.

Sometimes the problem is easy to identify. At other times, life may look fine from the outside while internally you feel disconnected, dissatisfied or stuck in patterns you don't quite know how to change.

You may be completely new to counselling. Or perhaps you've already explored therapy, personal development, meditation or holistic healing practices and find that certain difficulties continue to return.

Wherever you are starting from, you don't need to have the answers before coming to therapy.

You might recognise yourself in some of these experiences:

  • You feel anxious, stressed, overwhelmed or emotionally exhausted.
  • You keep encountering similar difficulties in your relationships.
  • You want to understand why certain situations affect you so strongly.
  • You are beginning to recognise how childhood or family experiences may still influence you today.
  • You are navigating a significant life, relationship or career transition.
  • You have reached a point where your work or life no longer feels like it fits.
  • You feel disconnected from yourself or aren't sure what you really want anymore.
  • You understand some of your patterns but struggle to change them.
  • You want to explore questions of meaning, identity, personal growth or spirituality.
  • You want more from therapy than simply learning how to cope.

My approach

My primary approach is contemporary Gestalt therapy. Gestalt is a relational and holistic form of psychotherapy that explores not only what you think, but also what you feel, experience in your body and notice in your relationships. Our sessions explore how past experiences and present patterns shape the way you live and relate today.

Instead of assuming something is wrong with you that needs fixing, we explore how your experiences and patterns developed, what purpose they may have served, and whether they still support the life you want today.

You don't need any previous therapy experience or knowledge of Gestalt. We begin with whatever is happening for you now.

Alongside counselling, my work is also informed by more than 10 years of practitioner experience with qigong, meditation, mindfulness and holistic practices. This gives me a particular interest in the relationship between psychological wellbeing, the body, personal growth and meaning.

If spirituality, your healing journey or meditation is important to you, it is welcome in the therapy room. If it isn't, that's equally okay. I work with the person in front of me rather than expecting clients to share a particular worldview.

Moving towards something different

People come to therapy because something hurts, isn't working or needs to change. But therapy can also be about what you want more of.

You might want greater clarity about your direction, healthier relationships, more emotional freedom, stronger boundaries or a deeper sense of connection with yourself.

The aim isn't to become somebody else. It is to understand yourself sufficiently well that you have more freedom in how you respond, relate and choose to live.

Meaningful change takes time, but therapy should also have direction. We will regularly consider what is changing, your goals, what you need and whether our work continues to be useful to you.

Over time, our work may help you develop greater clarity, emotional freedom and authenticity. As you understand your patterns more deeply, you can become less reactive and more able to respond with intention, presence and self-compassion.

The aim is not to turn you into someone different, but to help you feel more at home in who you are and more able to live in a way that reflects what matters to you.
